Description
This course introduces the International Waste program and details the roles and responsibilities of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) with regards to delivering the program. The CFIA and the CBSA collaboratively oversee and deliver the International Waste (IW) Program, so it is important to understand how this relationship works.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• recognize the CFIA’s authorities regarding IW;
• identify CFIA responsibilities with respect to the delivery of the International Waste (IW) program;
• indicate the roles and responsibilities of the CFIA and the CBSA within the IW program and the expectations regarding collaboration with CBSA to oversee and deliver their respective parts of the program at the district level;
• outline how to approve disposal routes and sites and collaborate with partner agencies regarding oversight of the IW program at airports (including flight kitchens), land ports of entry, marine ports, and approved disposal sites;
• indicate how to handle requests from stakeholders regarding disposal of IW from ships and airplanes, recycling of IW;
• indicate how to address IW non-compliance; and
• recognize where to seek answers to inform partners and stakeholders.
