Description

This course will provide CFIA staff with the knowledge and skills required to perform their work in a way that is safe for them and their colleagues by offering standardized training to new employees. It will also help to create an incident reporting culture to contribute to a safer work place.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• List their responsibilities and those of their employer under the Canada Labour Code.

• List the steps to onboard someone with regards to the health and safety aspects in a laboratory setting.

• Identify the common hazards present in a laboratory environment.

• Identify which incidents must be reported as hazard occurrences and understand when and how to report these incidents.

• List the steps in a hazard occurrence investigation process.

• State the first aid requirements in the work place.

• Define how to properly use emergency equipment available in the work place.

• Identify the factors that contribute to ergonomic risks.

• Match the required changes in laboratory workstations and activities to reduce ergonomic risks.
